Kellie has been dedicated to defending the rights of the accused her entire career. After graduating from law school, she joined the Fair Trial Initiative as an Obsorn Fellow. In this position, she assisted in the representation of individuals facing the death penalty.
After completing her fellowship, Kellie went into private practice, handling criminal cases across central North Carolina.
In 2012, 2014, and 2023, Kellie was invited to teach in UNC’s Juvenile Justice Clinic. Kellie supervised and taught third year law students as they represented juveniles charged with crimes in Orange and Durham counties.

Kellie is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. She is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of North Carolina, the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Kellie teaches at legal education seminars regularly. She also serves on the Board of Directors for North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services.
